Hard-working Alvernia University students were inducted into the Beta Kappa Chi honor society this semester.

Lebanon Valley College's 145th Commencement Exercises May 10 graduated 523 students, who received their degrees in the LVC Gymnasium. Students in the Called to Lead program thoughtfully invest their time to develop their leadership skills, understand leadership theories and reflect on ethical and purposeful life work for a better society. The Called to Lead award recognizes senior students who have completed the program by achieving the final level, integrating the themes of life calling and ethical leadership, using both their academic course work and the breadth of their engagement outside the classroom.

Ten Wilkes University students from the school's northeast Pennsylvania campus are spending the spring semester in Mesa, Ariz., and interning at local businesses and nonprofit agencies as part of the Semester in Mesa program. The program allows undergraduate students to pursue internship opportunities with Fortune 500 companies and other businesses and offers them exposure to a different city and cultural opportunities.

Carthage College Democrats is an organization dedicated to heightening political awareness on the Carthage campus and in the surrounding community. This group sponsors and runs debates, brings politicians and other speakers to campus, participates in philanthropy and community service projects, and more.

Carthage Allies is a group of LGBT supporters working to bring awareness and diversity to the Carthage campus. The group hosts a week of events leading up to the Day of Silence in the Spring, and holds various other programs throughout the year.

At age 25, Eric Sears has already served his country well. The Marine veteran who served four years and one deployment to Afghanistan is now back home in Pennsylvania, a junior majoring in sport management at Alvernia University. But this spring break, he is not following his classmates to the beach. Instead, he is spending it on a hospital bed, donating stem cells to save the life of a fellow veteran with leukemia -- one he will likely never meet.
